Information about Barrier-free Accessibility

Barrier-free parking

You will find two barrier-free parking spaces directly at the entrance to the castle lift.

Barrier-free access

Barrier-free access to the Hohenwerfen Castle is easily possible with the castle lift. The footpath to the castle is not accessible due to its steepness.

Accessibility in the interior of the castle

Please note that Hohenwerfen Castle has many steps and gradients that make accessibility difficult. The castle tour through the interior and the birds of prey demonstration is not accessible to disabled people due to the many stairs. At the ticket office you will receive free tablets with a video tour of the interior and the flight demonstration. The castle tavern and the gift shop are barrier-free accessible.

Wheelchair accessible toilets

Disabled toilets are located at the valley station and in the castle courtyard at the management office.

Care attendants and partner dogs

Partner dogs are allowed on a leash at the Hohenwerfen Castle. An accompanying person receives free admission to the castle. For groups, all attendants receive free admission.

Discounts

The disability card entitles you to a reduced admission price to the castle.

Special offers for persons with disabilities

  • Persons with walking disabilities: Starting in mid-2018, at the ticket office you will receive tablets with a video tour of the indoor areas and the flight demonstration.
  • Persons with visual impairment: A 3D model of the castle for touching is in the planning stage. Additionally, the audio guides are available free of charge.
  • Persons with impaired hearing: Starting in mid-2018 you will receive tablets with a video guide in sign language.
