Become a knight for a weekend

Family trip into the Middle Ages at Mauterndorf Castle

The imposing defense tower takes you back into the world of yesterday. But not only you: The family castle of Mauterndorf will amaze your whole family and show what life was like in the toll station castle centuries ago. So the little ones can properly let off steam, they can practice gymnastics on the adventure playground. And in special holiday offers for children, guided tours through the castle are available in which professionals bring history back to life for your children for up to two hours. Warning: The access to the castle with a stroller is limited.

Children’s audio guide

Fun while learning

Children have their own way of learning and exploring. At Mauterndorf Castle we have therefore developed special audio guides that are fully tailored to their needs. A tour through the castle therefore becomes an exciting trip back to the Middle Ages: Following in Archbishop Leonhard von Keutsch’s footsteps, the children meet the residents of the castle. In the clothing room, they slip into the clothes of knights and damsels and take part in the preparations for a great feast. On their journey through the castle, in the end the children even meet the Archbishop in person.

We currently have children’s audio guides in German, English, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Czech, Hungarian and Russian. You receive the audio guides at the cash desk.

Knight’s playground for little bundles of energy

What make children’s hearts beat faster

There is an adventure playground so that the children can properly let off steam. Here the young ones capture a real “castle in the castle”, since the playground is integrated in the medieval walls and courtyards of the castle. Not only children’s eyes will shine at the sight of it!
