The entire old town of Salzburg is a pedestrian zone and is not accessible by car. We therefore recommend using the public car parks in Mönchsberg or Nonntal. There are other car parks at the Mirabellgarage, the Rotkreuz-Parkplatz near the Salzach or at the end of the Linzergasse. Visitors parking cars at the convenient ‘Park & Ride’ parking spaces at the exhibition centre (A1 - motorway exit: Messezentrum) or on the Alpenstraße (A10 - motorway exit Salzburg south 'Süd'), can reach Salzburg’s old town quickly and without traffic jams by public transport.
Have parking tickets stamped at the ticket window Get your parking ticket stamped at the ticket window to receive a discount parking tariff for the garage in Mönchsberg.
Salzburg’s main railway station is only about 20 minutes’ walk from the old town. Travellers can find bus stops for city buses in the station square. The trolleybus (O-bus) lines 1, 3, 5, 6 and 25 go from the main station directly to Salzburg town centre. Get off at the bus stop Town Hall (Rathaus) or Ferdinand-Hanusch Square (Ferdinand-Hanusch-Platz). Walk along the Getreidegasse and past the Alten Markt, to reach the Residenzplatz square in about five minutes.
Salzburg airport is the second-largest airport in Austria and is located around four kilometres from the city centre. It provides very good flight connections to major European cities and is well linked to the main transport hubs of Frankfurt, Vienna, London and Zurich. The old town of Salzburg can be reached from Salzburg airport by taxi or public transport buses (O-bus line 8) in around 20 minutes.
