How to reach us

Mauterndorf adventure castle, in the town of the same name in the Lungau region, can be reached by car in around 90 minutes from the city of Salzburg. The route from the car park to the castle only takes a few minutes and starts at ground level.

The town of Mauterndorf can be reached via the Tauern highway (A 10), exit St. Michael. Then continue to Mauterndorf via the B 99.

Please note! A road tax sticker known as a ‘vignette’ applies to all highways in Austria; an additional highway toll must also be paid for the Tauern Road Tunnel between Flachauwinkel south and Zederhaus – if arriving from the north, and for the Katschbergtunnel between Rennweg and St. Michael – if arriving from the south. There are sufficient free parking spaces for coaches.

To avoid requiring a vignette, Mauterndorf adventure castle can be reached using any of the following routes:

  • From the north (Salzburg city): Salzachtal main road (B 159) to Bischofshofen, then the B 99 to Radstadt via Obertauern to the Lungau region. (About 90 minutes).
  • From the west (Zell am See): Pinzgauer Straße road (B 311) from Zell am See to Bischofshofen, then on the Katschberg Straße road (B 99) to Radstadt via Obertauern to the Lungau region. (About 95 minutes).
  • From the south (Kärnten or Carinthia in English): from Spittal an der Drau via Katschberg Straße road (B 99) through Gmünd, Rennweg, St. Michael to Mauterndorf. (About 40 minutes).
  • From the east (Steiermark or Styria in English): from Murau on the main road Murtal-Bundesstraße (B 96) to Tamsweg, then on the main road Turracher Bundesstraße (B 95) to Mauterndorf. (About 40 minutes)

The municipality of Mauterndorf is linked to the postbus route network. Taking the train from the city of Salzburg to Radstadt and then the postbus to Mauterndorf takes about two and a half hours. If arriving from the south, Tamsweg has the nearest train station. You can find information on train and bus links at www.oebb.at.

The nearest airport is in the city of Salzburg. Salzburg airport is the second largest airport in Austria and is located directly at the highway intersection Salzburg-Munich-Vienna-Villach. It provides very good flight connections to big European cities and is well linked to the main transport hubs of Frankfurt, Vienna, London and Zurich. The town of Mauterndorf can be reached via the Tauern highway in around 90 minutes by rental car or taxi. More information on shuttle and taxi services is available from the Mauterndorf Tourism Association at  www.mauterndorf.at
